SPIRAL Inc is a day time respite service, which focuses on providing professional, individualised personal care for adults with moderate to severe and multiple disabilities.

Programs are individually designed in consultation with the service user and their family/carer and aim to:

  • Meet the individual needs of the service users
  • Achieve individual goals and objectives
  • Increase the skills of each service user to facilitate their involvement in the community
  • Give  support workers a focus and challenge
  • Provide support and respite to families and carers

Type of activities offered include:

  • Fitness and Movement
  • Dance
  • Bowling
  • Service User forums
  • Lunch Café
  • Creative art work
  • Swimming
  • Sailing
  • Drama
  • Percussion
  • Plus many more

Benefits include allowing carers to enjoy respite, developing service users’ socialisation skills and sense of independence.  In particular we focus on:

Community access and inclusion: SPIRAL  staff arrive with specialised transport, where practicable,  to make it possible for service users to engage to the level of their capacity and comfort in a variety of social activities.  We offer support in accessing programmed social activities and public events.  This includes participating in community activities and events in a service user’s local community.

Recreation/ Quality of Life: Staff assist clients to partake [to the level their capacity] in activities which may include drama, music, fitness, dance, swimming, creative days, cooking and personal interests.  These programs offer core components which develop skills in literacy and numeracy, social skills, communication skills, social interaction and more.

SPIRAL services and our trained staff offer the expertise for safely engaging adults with moderate to severe disabilities in many activities outside their usual experience.  SPIRAL aims  to support and facilitate a client in gaining new skills and enable them to actively engage in their local community independently.

We can also assist with referrals to other agencies if required and general information on disabilities.

Quality and Accountability

SPIRAL is accountable to its two funding bodies Disability Services (DSQ) and Home and Community Care (HACC).  We must fully comply with both the State and Federal disability services standards and are audited annually.

SPIRAL embraces the philosophy of continuous improvement and has a Quality Committee established to develop, implement, monitor and improve systems, procedures and practices.  We also committed to meeting both Disability Service Standards and the Community Care Common Standards and Principles.
